Heavy Topspin Backhand
Many opponents love targeting your backhand, hoping to force an easy return out of you or maybe even an unforced error. Developing a heavy topspin backhand for those rallies could prove useful in countering such play-styles. Learn how to force your opponents behind the baseline and away from the center of the court, and open up more opportunities for yourself. This shot is also more consistent; incorporating it into your arsenal would allow you to take on more consistent and long rallies.
Hip Rotation
When executing the heavy topspin backhand, much of your wrist rotation and swing pattern should be dedicated to brushing the ball up thoroughly. This allows a tremendous amount of topspin to be imparted into the shot; however, the shot might lack power. You will be taught how to use your hips to add power to your stroke, hitting the ball deep into your opponents’ court, and put them on the defensive.
Racket-Head Speed
Your coach will put you through drills to increase the speed of your racket swing. When you are able to increase your racket-head speed, you will find that your backhand shots have a vicious topspin and will put your opponents on their back foots. With the correct technique and sufficient practice, you can turn your backhand into a weapon.
