Special Needs Tennis

Sport has been recognized as being able to make a positive impact in the lives of persons with disabilities (PwDs). There are about 3% of the population in Singapore with some form of disability, but sports may not be part of their everyday lives.

The Play! Tennis Special Needs Program is designed in accordance with the Disability Sports Master Plan (DSMP), which are recommendations put forward by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) in 2016.

We seek to provide more sports opportunities for persons with disabilities and special needs to live better through tennis.

Catered for Children with Special Needs

The Play! Tennis Special Needs Program is appropriate for children with: Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, Language-Based Disabilities or ADHD.

Our students with special needs may have narrowly-defined interests and experience difficulties in following conversations or directions.

Play-Based Curriculum

Our play-based curriculum encourages social interaction, improves hand-eye coordination and balance, and aims to inculcate interest in sports in general.

Our coaches adopt developmentally appropriate equipment such as softer balls, smaller rackets, and lower nets. Kids will feel that they are progressing with each class they attend.

The Play! Tennis Special Needs Program works in any play space - with or without a traditional tennis court.

Forming Bonds

Our coaches are patient and respectful and seek to form meaningful bonds with the children they teach. At the tennis court, the kids will have opportunities to forge close friendships with their coaches and fellow players.

Fostering Inclusive Communities

Play Tennis is one of the largest sports communities in Singapore. We have always been inclusive in our approach, as we welcome players from all backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
