The Surprise Drop
In many modern tennis play-styles, grinding out the point with heavy topspin groundstrokes at the baseline is very common. These rallies can go on for prolonged periods of time and the match soon becomes a battle of stamina and consistency. Switch up the game by surprising your opponent with a dropshot. These shots will force them away from the baseline and leave them vulnerable at the net, allowing you to finish the point with ease, as well as conserving your own stamina.
Disguising your Drop
An obvious backswing or stance can give away your next choice of shot. Being able to disguise your dropshot takes valuable time away from your opponents as they are unable to read your intentions. These valuable seconds or milliseconds may mean the difference between your opponent being able to reach the ball or not. Our coaches will teach you how to disguise your dropshot.
Waiting for the Right Time
You will learn to recognize the right time to execute a dropshot, for e.g., when your opponent is looking too comfortable standing 3 metres behind the baseline. If your opponent is expecting the drop, you could end up feeding them a juicy approach shot at the net. Being patient, and reading your opponent is essential in ensuring that your specialty shot remains effective in putting them on their back-feet.
