Novak Djokovic Wins Paris Masters For The 7th Time
Novak Djokovic ends Grigor Dimitrov’s dream run at the Paris Masters in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in 98 minutes on their 13th meeting on tour. It was a finals matchup that no one had expected, and a battle between two of the oldest guys in the top 20. Djokovic continues to dominate their Lexus Head2Head meeting now leading 12-1.
It was an unexpectedly good run at the Paris Masters for Grigor Dimitrov as he defeated no.3 seed Daniil Medvedev, no. 11 seed Hubert Hurkazc, and no. 7 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas en-route his first Masters finals since 2017. The Bulgarian put up a decent fight against the world no. 1, making Djokovic play the backhand slice in longer rallies that he is most uncomfortable with, but ultimately still fell short of the title. A great run for the 32-year-old this season with 41 wins, and he will be ending the season as world no. 14.
The world no. 1 continues to dominate the tennis scene, breaking one record after another. This title marks his 7th at the Paris Masters and also his 40th Masters 1000 title. Djokovic now has 97 tour-level titles under his belt and is only 3 shy from reaching 100 tour-level titles. Despite an already impressive resume, Djokovic is still looking to win an Olympic Gold medal and possibly achieve a Calendar Slam. Next up, he will try to defend the no. 1 ranking in Turin and end the year as a year-end no. 1 for the eighth time.
