Andrey Rublev Runs Down Home Favourite Alex de Minaur To advance Into The Quarterfinals At The Australian Open
The fifth seed Andrey Rublev runs down the Australian tenth seed “speed demon” Alex de Minaur in five grueling sets and advances to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. The match became Rublev’s longest match played at any Grand Slam tournament, lasting 4 hours and 14 minutes, before he finally prevailed 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-0.
Rublev, as usual, put out a whole display of his emotions during the match on the court. This time, after losing 2 tight tie-breaks in a row, he managed to keep his cool and outplayed arguably one of the fastest men on tour right now to secure the fourth set. He then closed out the final set with a clean sweep despite cramps in his lower body, upsetting the Australian home crowd as he dispatched the home hope.
Rublev will be facing the fourth seed Jannik Sinner who is currently playing at his prime and has yet to drop a set at AO this year. Sinner leads Rublev 4-2 in their Lexus H2H meetings on tour and looks to be playing really well at the moment. Rublev probably has to dig deep to claim his spot in the semifinals.
