On 21 August at the Masters 1000 Tour, Cincinnati Open, world no. 7 Stefanos Tsisitpas from Greece knocked out world ranking no. 1 and top seed Danill Medvedev in the semi-finals of the men’s singles match to advance into the finals to go against the comeback kid -unseeded Croatian Borna Coric.

The semi-finals match between the world no. 1 and no. 7 is their 10th meeting in their careers. Despite Tsitsipas win in the match, Medvedev still leads 7-3 in their head-to-head. The 3-set match took 2 hours and 18 minutes ending in Tsitsipas favour 7-6 (7-6), 3-6, 6-3.

This is the first time Tsitsipas is advancing to the finals of the Cincinnati Open, and he is bidding to clinch his 10th career title and his third Masters 1000 title at the event. But it is definitely not going to be an easy finals to win, as Coric has been on a roll at the Cincinnati Open this past week, knocking out four seeded players including Rafael Nadal and Cameron Norrie in his matches played. This is no ordinary feat especially for someone that had undergone shoulder surgery just last year.

The finals match on 22 August between Tsitsipas and Coric will be their 3rd meeting since their last match against each other at round 32 of the US Open in 2020, which ended in Coric’s favour.

Who will be the winner? Regardless, we wish both players the best of luck and hope that there will be no injuries moving forward as we are looking forward to their performance at the US Open that is coming up shortly!
