Borna Coric’s Fairytale Ending At The Cincinnati Masters 1000 Open

During the past week at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 Open we witnessed how Croatian Borna Coric’s fairytale played out. It was unbelievable! Having just lost to a player ranked out of the top 300 a week before the Cincy Open, no one would have guessed that he would be able to rise from the back and clinch the title.

This is Coric’s third ATP title, his maiden Masters 1000 title and also his first title since Halle in 2018. The former world no.12 had to take a year-long hiatus for rehab on his right shoulder after the surgery, thus missing the whole season last year. He made his comeback in March of this year, securing just 3 tour level wins before the Cincinnati Open.

En-route to the title, Coric defeated 5 of the seeded players including Rafael Nadal (no. 2 seed), Roberto Bautista Agut (no.15 seed), Felix Auger-Aliassime (no.7 seed) and Cameron Norrie (no.9 seed) and Stefanie Tsitsipas (no.4 seed). On 22 August he made history as the lowest ranked Masters 1000 champion, capturing the title ranked at just No.152.

The former world no. 12 is crowned ATP mover of the week after this win, moving up 123 spots to No. 29. It is his first time back in the Top 100 since his return in March this year. With this win, Coric will become a seeded player at the US Open and we hope to see him in top form, putting out his best tennis for us!
