Carlos Alcaraz Breaks Novak Djokovic’s Winning Streak On Centre Court At Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz defeats Novak Djokovic to claim his maiden Wimbledon title in five sets 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. It took Alcaraz almost five long hours to finally claim the win over Novak Djokovic who was looking to win Wimbledon for the 5th consecutive year and equal Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon titles won.
Carlos Alcaraz had a rocky start losing the first set 1-6 in just 34 minutes. However, he managed to find his form in the second set and eventually prevailed in the deciding set. A huge feat for Carlos to win the match despite losing the first set as Djokovic had won his previous 104 Grand Slam matches after winning the first set.
Carlos Alcaraz puts an end to an era as he becomes the first player out of the Big Four - Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic - to win a Wimbledon men’s singles title since 2002. It was a dream come true for the young Spaniard as he lifts the trophy at the All England Club. He did something that seemed impossible in the absence of Nadal and Federer; by winning Alcaraz proves that Djokovic is not invincible on the tennis court!
Now that we are stepping into the new era of men’s tennis, I wonder who will be the next Big Three?
