Ons Jabeur Loses Out On The Wimbledon Title Once Again!

Marketa Vondrousova, world number 42 from the Czech Republic makes an epic comeback after a terrible wrist injury that caused her to be out of the tour for the latter half of last year. She was probably one of the most unlikely players to win the title this year but she made it work!

The 24-year-old ‘lefty’ is the new Ladies’ Singles Wimbledon champion after defeating 5 seeded players en route (V.Kudermetova[12], D.Kevic[20], M.Bouzkova[32], J.Pegula[4], O.Jabeur[6]). This is her first Grand Slam Title and only her second tour-level title. Vondrousova is also the only unseeded female player to ever win the title at Wimbledon in the Open Era.

Vondrousova had a rough start against Ons Jabeur in the finals, with Jabeur breaking her serve and leading 2-0; however, she fought back to level the playing field, and then broke Jabeur to take the lead at 5-4 before closing the first set out. The second set was almost identical to the first with Jabeur breaking Vondrousova early but unable to capitalize on those opportunities. Vondrousova took her chance and broke Jabeur at 4-4 once again to close out the game and claim the finals in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Ons Jabeur has now missed her chance to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish at Wimbledon two times in a row, losing to Elena Rybakina last summer and losing again to Vondrousova this year. She is still hopeful and promises to come back stronger to win the title one day and we most definitely hope she does!

On the men’s tour, Casper Ruud suffered the same fate as Jabeur as they were both unable to claim their first Grand Slam Title despite making 3 Slam finals in the last year and a half. Both players made it to the finals on each of their best surfaces twice - Ruud on Clay at Roland Garros while Jabeur at Wimbledon on grass. Unfortunately, they were unable to clinch the title just yet.
