Alexander Zverev Becomes A Champion In Rome Once Again
Alexander Zverev overcame the big-hitting Chilean Nicolas Jarry to clinch his sixth Masters 1000 title at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. He defeated Jarry in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 41 minutes to lift the trophy for the second time. This marks Zverev’s first Masters title after the serious ankle injury he suffered at Roland Garros in 2022.
Zverev only dropped one set en-route to the title in Rome, but the 21th seed Jarry did a fantastic job en-route to the finals, dispatching seeds Stefanos Tsitsipad and Tommy Paul. Unfortunately, Jarry, who was competing in his first final at a Masters event was unable to overcome Zverev, who put on a stellar performance, committing just eight unforced errors in the whole match.
Alexander Zverev has now overtaken Daniil Medvedev on the PIF ATP Rankings and becomes the world number 4 after claiming his 22nd tour-level title in Rome. Zverev will stand a good chance at the French Open given many uncertainties on tour at the moment on the men’s side. Zverev will enter the French Open ranked 4th in the world, and he will at least be seeded no. 4 at the event. The German may be able to become a Grand Slam champion if he maintains his high level of play.
