Taylor Fritz Completes Three-Peat At The Rothesay International As He Becomes A Champion For The Third Time
American Taylor Fritz dispatched first-time tour finalist Max Purcell in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and nine minutes to become the champion in Eastbourne for the third time. He previously won there in 2019 and 2022. The Rothesay International is definitely a special place for the American as this was where he won his maiden ATP Tour title in 2019.
Fritz did not drop any of his service games throughout the whole tournament in Eastbourne this year. He put up a blistering performance against the Australian in the finals, where he did not face a breakpoint at all, holding all of his service games and he did just enough, breaking Purcell once in both sets to claim his 8th career title.
It was a monumental moment for the tournament as the American became the first man to win the title there thrice in the 29-year history of the tournament. Fritz will also move up one spot to world no. 12 on the PIF ATP Rankings as it refreshes on Monday. He will reclaim his spot as the top-ranked American as he edges ahead of compatriot Tommy Paul.
The American looks to be one of the dark horses at Wimbledon this year. Fritz showed great form on grass where he made the quarterfinals at Queen’s Club and won the title in Eastbourne. His confidence on the grass will be high going into The Championships. With his blistering serve and aggressive play, he will be a very dangerous player there.
