Iga Swiatek Unrivalled In 2022 Season

The current world no. 1 and 3-time Grand Slam Champion is having her best session in 2022. She just claimed her 63rd match win of the session against American Jessica Pegula at the semifinals of the San Diego Open. She had to come back from a first-set loss, eventually winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Iga is now looking to bring home her 11th career singles title at the San Diego Open. However, It is not yet clear who she will be playing against at the finals due to the rain delays of the semifinals match between Danielle Collins and Donna Vekic. Denielle Collins is currently up 4-2 in the third set, so there is a high chance that Iga will be facing Collins at the finals on Monday.

Iga Swiatek has now matched Angelique Kerber’s record in 2016 for the most Hologic WTA Tour victories in the past six years. Iga will now become the fourth woman to finish off the year with more than 10,000 points in the WTA rankings, following Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. She is leading the WTA ranking with 10,485 points, way ahead of no.2 Ons Jabeur sitting at 4885 points. 

Iga Swiatek at just 21 years old is already a 3-time Grand Slam champion. She has shown tenacity on court, consistency and confidence in her games this year. I believe that she will continue to thrive in the tennis scene, and might even go on to become the GOAT in the future!
