Novak Djokovic Wins Astana Open
The current world no. 7 Novak Djokovic triumphs over world no. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the finals of the Astana Open on Sunday (9th Oct). The Serbian took just 75-minutes to take down the Greek in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The finals match was a breeze for Novak when compared to the semifinals match he played against world no. 4 Daniil Medvedev on Saturday (8th Oct). Clashes between former world no.1(s) never disappoint, as Medvedev took the opening set 4-6 and was playing really well and ended up playing to tie-break in the second set. Both played superbly and did not break any serves; however, it was ultimately Novak who was able to claim the second-set. We were all expecting an exciting third set until Daniil Medvedev retired from the match moments after the end of the second set due to a leg injury. So the Serbian advanced for the finals with a walkover and the match ending 4-6, 7-6(6).
This win is Novak Djokovic's fourth tour-level title of the season. The match against Tsitsipas was also his ninth consecutive match victory from winning the ATP 250 event in Tel Aviv last week. Novak Djokovic now leads ATP Head2Head series 8-2 against Stefanos Tsitsipas with him winning the last 7 meetings.
Well, a 3-month break from tennis since winning Wimbledon did not slow Novak down at all. We look forward to more stellar performances on court!
