Novak Djokovic And Marin Cilic Into Tel Aviv Finals
Novak Djokovic is back playing in his top form at the Tel Aviv Watergen Open after the Laver Cup just last week! It is only his second ATP event after his Wimbledon win in July, and he is looking to claim his 11th singles ATP 250 title.
He played fantastically against the world no. 104 Roman Safiullin in 2 sets 6-1, 7-6(3). He brisked through the first set dropping just three points behind serve. Safiullin fought back in the second set and managed to push Djokovic to a tie-break. However, Djokovic stayed composed and fought to claim his win.
Novak will be playing his 4th tour level finals in 2022 against the Croatian Marin Cilic, who is chasing his maiden tour title of 2022. This upcoming match will also be Novak’s first hard-court final since his last win at the Paris Masters in 2022!
These two players are no strangers on court. They have played each other 20 times during their careers and Djokovic leads with 18-2 in the pair’s ATP Head2Head series. They first played in 2008 and have been playing against each other since.
Will Marin Cilic be able to overcome his longtime foe and claim his 21st tour-level crown on Sunday? It will most definitely be a fantastic match to watch!
