Holger Rune To Play Novak Djokovic For 1st Masters 1000 Title In Paris
Holger Rune from Denmark, the current world no.18, advances to his first-ever Masters 1000 event finals in Paris. To get to the finals, Holger defeated the current world no.1 Carlos Alcaraz (6-3 6-6 RET) in the quarterfinals, and in the semis Holger got the better of the current world no. 8 Felix Auger-Aliassime (6-4, 6-2), whom he had lost to just last week at the Basel Open Finals. Holger has had a fantastic indoor season, reaching 4 straight finals with a W-L record of 18-2.
Novak Djokovic, former world no. 1 and the defending champion at the Paris Masters, will play to defend his title. Djokovic acquired a win against Italian Lorenzo Musetti at the quarterfinals rather comfortably (6-0,6-3), but he had to battle past Stefanos Tsitsipas in a 3-set thriller, playing to a tie-break in the third set to finally outlast Tsitsipas for a spot at the Paris Masters to defend his title.
The finals will be the second meeting between the two players. Novak Djokovic currently leads the H2H 1-0 with the win at R128 last year at the US Open. While Djokovic seeks to defend his title, Rune will play for his first Masters 1000 Title and a possible debut in the top 10 of the ATP Pepperstone ranking.
Believe that it will be an exciting match and perhaps Holger Rune can fulfill a magical end to a fantastic hard court season he had so far!
