Taylor Fritz Ends Season On A High Note

Taylor Fritz defeated the defending champion, former world no. 1 Daniil Medvedev, to win his first Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia, ending his 2022 season on a high note. Fritz had an amazing season this year and broke into the top 10 for the first time.

Fritz won the 2-set tiebreaker match 7-6(5), 7-6(3) in an hour and fifty-two minutes against Daniil Medvedev at the finals on 10 December. It was a hard-fought match for both players. Medvedev managed 6-break points in the first set but was unable to convert any of them. Taylor Fritz outlasted Medvedev and extended his tie-break record in 2022 to 25-19 and claimed his victory.

Medvedev had a pretty good season despite the fact that he was unable to convert a number of finals to victories. The finals at the Diriyah Tennis Cup was only their second meeting and they were in a similar situation during their last meeting at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 event earlier this year where Daniil won 7-6(1), 6-3.
