Andy Murray Loses First Round At Citi Open
The former world no.1 Andy Murray from Britain was ultimately defeated by the 23 year-old Swedish Mikael Ymer in the first round of Citi Open in Washington earlier today after a 3-set match that took almost 3 hours. Mikael Ymer was able to go through to the second round at the Citi Open after winning the match 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1.
Andy Murray was indeed disappointed with the outcome as he had high hopes going into the Citi Open. Also, he felt that both Ymer and himself did not manage to put out their best tennis during the match as both of them had shown some physical discomfort at various points of the match, especially in the second and third set. Murray has been struggling with some cramp issues since two tournaments ago and will be looking positively to solve this and get ready for his next one in August at the National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada.
This match was Ymer’s first hard court match since February this year. He definitely was not an easy one for Murray as he plays long rallies and has a good court coverage, which made Murray lose patience multiple times and ultimately losing some really crucial points during the match. Mikael Ymer still has a lot to achieve as he starts off his American swing on a good note!
We sure hope that Ymer goes far in the Citi Open and for former world champ Andy to be in best shape for many more tournaments to come!
