Rafael Nadal withdraws from Montreal Open
On 5th August, just 2 days before the start of the Montreal open this year, the 5-time champion of the Canadian Open, Rafael Nadal, announced his withdrawal from the championship due to an existing abdominal injury that has been bothering him for a while now and which was aggravated during his quarter-final match against Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon earlier this year.
Nadal tries his best not to miss out on too many tournaments, and as such many of his ailments still persist. Rafa is one to put out his best tennis despite the limitations of his condition. In the last few years he has not been in his top form but has still managed to win several Grand Slams and ATP Titles..
Nadal has continued to practice - except for his serves - while undergoing treatment for his abdomen. It is said that he has gotten a lot better but as he started to practice serves again in the last few days he still felt some discomfort in his abdomen, prompting the decision to pull out from the championship after consulting his doctor.
It is unfortunate that we will not be able to see Nadal play at the Montreal Open. However, I’m sure that the Canadian Open this year will still be an exciting one to watch! We wish for Nadal’s speedy recovery and hope to see him play at the US Open this year!
