Daniil Medvedev Downs Andy Murray In Doha

Daniil Medvedev ended Andy Murray’s bid for his first ATP title since the European Open in 2019 in straight sets 6-4,6-4. The finals last night was their 3rd meeting on tour and Medvedev now leads Andy Murray in their H2H 3-0.

Daniil Medvedev was definitely in a more confident position to claim the title in Doha going into the finals having won the title in Rotterdam just last week.

Also, Medvedev only dropped one set en-route to the finals against Christoper O’Connell in the quarterfinals, while Andy Murray had to play four 3-set matches, saving 8 match points on the way to the finals. He rescued the last 5 of those match points in the semi-finals match against Jiri Lehecka, ultimately winning to secure a spot in the finals.

Though Andy Murray did not manage to secure the title, the matches he played this season at the Australian Open and this tournament showed us that he is still capable of competing against the best players in the world despite having undergone that hip injury 3 years ago.

Daniil Medvedev seems to be back in his Grand Slam winning form after acquiring back to back titles in Rotterdam and Doha. The former world No.1 broke back into the top 10 after winning the title in Rotterdam and he is ranked world No. 8 at the moment.
