Andrey Rublev Claims Maiden Masters 1000 Title In Monte Carlo

Andrey Rublev came back from a set down to beat Holger Rune in 3 sets 5-7,6-2,7-5 in 2 hours and 33 minutes to claim his maiden masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo! This title also marks Rublev’s 13th tour-level title.

Andrey Rublev fought back hard in the third set from 1-4 down to getting back on serve 4-4, then managed to hold serve and break Holger Rune to get to 6-5 and finally close out the match on serve, ending it with an ace on the last game 40-15 to secure the win against the young Dane.

The finals between two expressive players truly did not disappoint, Rublev managed to keep his composure and emotions together throughout the match unlike many of his previous matches. Perhaps, this was just what he needed to push himself over the line.

The young Dane, Holger Rune, was chasing his fourth career title and second Masters title. His last title was at Paris Masters last year where he took down five top-10 players including Andrey Rublev and Novak Djokovic to secure it. Unfortunately, he was unable to take his chances against Rublev in the finals earlier on.

This match marks their third meeting on tour with Andrey Rublev leading the Head2Head 2-1, backing up his win against Holger Rune in the intense 5-set match at the Australian Open earlier this year. I am expecting more breath-taking matches from these two players in coming years.
