Novak Djokovic Makes History Once Again!

Novak Djokovic pulls ahead of Rafael Nadal for the most number of Grand Slams won by a male player as he claimed a historic 23rd major title at Roland Garros in Paris on Sunday. He now matches Serena Williams for the most number of slams any player has won in the Open Era and is the only male player who has won each slam at least 3 times.

The Serbian passed the test put up by Casper Ruud at the finals in 3 hours and 13 minutes in straight sets 7-6(1), 6-3, 7-5. He was off to a sloppy start trailing Ruud 1-4 before he forced a tie-break in the first, where the momentum shifted in Philippe-Chatrier - and the rest was history.

Casper Ruud by no means played badly. In fact, he did pretty well keeping Djokovic at bay, keeping the score lines close in the first and third sets, but Djokovic was just too good. Casper fought hard, but unfortunately, it is still not his turn for a major yet. He is now 0-3 after reaching the finals of a Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic is the oldest man to have won the French Open at 36 years and 20 days and is now back on top of the ATP Pepperstone rankings for a record-extending 388th weeks. He definitely will be trying for a calendar slam this year as he has already won the first two. He will be playing in the US Open later this year after missing out last year due to his vaccination status.

Is he already the greatest player of all time?
