New Champions On Grass!
We have two new champions emerge on grass on Sunday, 25th June, just a week ahead of the Wimbledon main draw matches.
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex De Minaur in straight sets 6-4,6-4 to claim his maiden grass-court title at The Queen’s Club in London. He only dropped one set during the tournament and it was during his opening match against Arthur Rinderknech in which he was forced to play a final set tie-break.
Carlos Alcaraz pulls ahead of Novak Djokovic to reclaim the top spot on the ATP Pepperstone Rankings after claiming the title. He now ties with Daniil Medvedev for the tour lead with each winning 5 titles this season. Alcaraz will enter Wimbledon as the top seed and will be looking positively to win the title for the first time.
Alexander (Sascha) Bublik came through a tough draw and clinched the final win against world no. 7 Andrey Rublev to claim his maiden grass-court title at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany. Bublik had to battle past seeded opponents Borna Coric, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev to finally reach the finals.
Bublik had a rough start to the season, winning only 8 out of 27 matches played. Moving onto one of his favourite surfaces with nothing to lose, he managed to put out his best tennis and win not only his second tour-level title but also his biggest title yet! He moves up 22 spots on the ATP Pepperstone Rankings to attain a career-high ranking of 26.
