Andrey Rublev Battles Past Alexander Bublik To Reach The Quarterfinals Of Wimbledon
Andrey Rublev battled past Alexander Bublik in five sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4 in 3 hours and 17 minutes at the fourth round of Wimbledon. The match between the two was a rematch of the Halle finals where Bublik took the win. Andrey Rublev moves on to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon after gaining his 35th tour-level win this season.
This match was one of the most exciting matches played at Wimbledon so far, with the unpredictable and on-form Bublik firing 39 aces and an incredible 135 mph second serve to save match points and turning things around in the fourth set to bring the scoreboard to two sets each.
However, in the fifth set Rublev persevered and won a breakpoint at 4-3. On his last service game at 5-4, he dived to save a huge backhand from Bublik and finally finished off with an ace to claim a spot in the quarterfinals.
Andrey Rublev will now either play Novak Djokovic or Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals. The round of 16 battle between Djokovic and Hurkacz was unfortunately suspended due to the weather.
Their match was suspended at the end of the second set tie-break, Djokovic now leads 2 sets to love after playing 2 tie-break sets. Let's see if Hurkacz is able to make magic happen when the match resumes!
