Jack Draper Comes Back From A Set Down To Claim Maiden Title In Stuttgart
Jack Draper overcame two-time Stuttgart Champion Matteo Berrettini in 3 tough sets 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 to claim his maiden ATP Tour title at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, Germany. Third time lucky for the Brit as he finally secured a title after losing in the finals in Sofia (2023) and Adelaide (2024).
The start was not ideal for Draper as the Italian, Berrettini, took an early break and did not give him any chances to get back into the set. There was really nothing that set the two players apart in the second set with both serving and holding well. Draper just nudged ahead to clinch the second set and force a decider. The Brit’s moment came when Berrettini was serving at 3-3; Draper managed to break the serve to lead 4-3 and held his serves to finally clinch his first final victory on the ATP Tour!
Matteo Berrettini paved his way for a great comeback on tour in the grass court season as he is set to move 30 places up in the PIF Rankings. The two-time Wimbledon finalist proved his prowess on grass once again by making the finals at the Boss Open. Despite narrowly losing the match, he proved that he will be massively dangerous on the grass and will be looking to go deep in the tournaments to come.
Jack Draper with the Boss Open title will move up to number 30 on the PIF ATP Rankings, and will become the top ranked British male player, overtaking Cameron Norrie. He is also confirmed to be a part of Team GB’s Tennis Team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The last season has not been kind to both players, as they were hampered with injuries. Both players now appear to have gone past them and will be looking forward to more wins to come.
